Outdoor Schools
The San Diego Office of Education has operated its Outdoor School program since 1946. With two camp locations, Camp Cuyamaca and Camp Palomar, the Outdoor School program provides 6th grade students with a unique opportunity to study earth sciences in the natural environment, while also participating in activities that develop youth social skills, leadership and self-esteem. Both students and teachers leave Outdoor School knowing more about the natural world and themselves.
Camp Cuyamaca
Each year 12,000 sixth grade boys and girls experience the wonder and natural beauty of Camp Cuyamaca, the first outdoor school in the state of California - founded in 1946. For five days and four nights, students gain knowledge in local history and earth sciences while partaking in hands-on field studies and outdoor recreation activities. Did you attend Camp Cuyamaca? Camp Palomar
At 5,000 feet Palomar Mountain provides a natural environment for student exploration and investigation. Camp Palomar is the perfect setting for students to learn science, history and gain a better understanding for cultural awareness. Camp Palomar's interactive learning activities help students gain an appreciation and understanding for nature and their relationship to it. Did you attend Camp Palomar?
